On April the 9th 1991, Georgia a relatively small state on the borders of Asia, declared its independence from Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (The USSR, now Russia). Georgia showed development at a rapid speed after war.
Applying to Schengen/European Union
The Georgia and the European Union have strong ties since 1992. Under Eastern Partnership programme the two developed more strengthen relations in the year 2009. During 2016 it was further moved to next step and Association Agreement was enforced. The Association Agreement allowed Georgian citizens to visit Schengen States without having a visa. Georgian citizens were also allowed to start businesses in some European markets.
On 3rd March, 2022 Georgia officially applied for EU membership. In December 2023 application was accepted and Georgia was given a EU candidate status.
Finally from 28th of March, 2024, all Georgian Nationals with a biometric passport will be allowed to visit 26 Schengen states without a need of visa.
